The Illinois Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC) is proud to offer College Counseling for School Counselors from Public High Schools located within DuPage County. The workshop is hosted by and will be held in person at Elmhurst University as part of the DuPage Regional Office of Education's County Wide Institute Day on February 28, 2025.

Until recently, school counselor education programs failed to provide candidates with specific instruction on advising students navigating the complicated postsecondary search process. IACAC has long filled this training gap with professional development for practicing school counselors. College Counseling for School Counselors is an extension of this portfolio offered to school counselors with 1-5 years of experience. If you attended this last year, please allow our newer colleagues this opportunity and select another option for yourself.

Participants will attend a variety of sessions led by school counselors, college admission officers and other leaders and experts in the postsecondary counseling field. Five (5) professional development hours will be provided through IACAC.

Topics may include: 

• Incorporating MTSS in college counseling

• Involving families in the post-secondary planning process

• College access counseling for first generation college students

• Utilizing data

• Incorporating career counseling

• Current trends in college admissions

• School counselor responsibilities and timelines
