EDUCATIONAL ADVISOR (Senior Admission Counselor)
The University of Iowa Office of Admissions has a vacancy for an educational advisor to be filled immediately. This position will recruit and advise prospective undergraduate students to the University of Iowa. Duties and responsibilities include: provide information and guidance to students and their families about University policies, procedures, programs and student life; consult with and explain admission policies to representatives at secondary schools, community colleges and other educational organizations.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Applicants must have excellent communication and presentation skills, a strong work ethic, good judgment, a high level of professionalism, ability to manage multiple tasks and be familiar with basic computer software applications. All members of the Outreach Admissions staff share responsibility for recruitment of diverse student populations. Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds is required. Must be free to travel extensively. Overnight travel, evening and weekend work is required. A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required. The ability to move boxes and transport materials up to 40 lbs. is required.
Desirable Qualifications: Master’s degree is desirable. Familiarity with new computer technology including Instant Messaging and Blogging is desirable. Experience (1 to 3 years) working in an admissions office is desirable. Experience within the past 5 years in admissions work, educational agency serving college bound populations, or student service programs (financial aid, student life, residence hall services, student organizations) is highly desirable. Knowledge of the nature, aims and organizational workings of a college or university is desirable.
