    Earlham College in Indiana seeks to appoint a Vice President for Enrollment and Communications with specific responsibility for admissions, financial aid, and College communications, including oversight of Earlham’s external and internal web presence as well as the College’s marketing efforts. 

     

    The Position: This newly expanded position will have responsibility for building Earlham’s enrollment profile as well as marketing the College’s distinctive educational experience to prospective students and the wider world. The new Vice President will leverage the use of technology and develop a data-driven approach and culture for strategic decision-making in recruitment and outreach. Working closely with the Director of Admissions, the Director of Financial Aid and staff in the office of information technology and computing, the new Vice President will develop the processes and mechanisms to create predictive enrollment and financial aid models to shape an academically talented and diverse entering class and to leverage the College’s resources. Approximately one third of Earlham’s students participate in intercollegiate athletics making effective collaboration between admissions and athletics a high priority for the Vice President. In collaboration with senior leadership, the Vice President will plan and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy that will advance the image and visibility of Earlham to internal and external audiences. This includes creating a clear story for the College with a related branding strategy, developing a new suite of digital and print materials to convey this brand, and harnessing multiple channels to deliver key messages broadly (web, media relations, social media, direct mail and e-mail, etc.). The new Vice President will play a key role on a recently established Enrollment Management Committee that actively evaluates retention issues, shapes admission and recruitment criteria, and implements changes to make a positive impact on enrollment outcomes.

    The Vice President for Enrollment and Communications will oversee the work of the Director of Admissions, the Director of Financial Aid, and the Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications. The Vice President reports to the President and is a member of Senior Staff.

     

    Qualifications: The new Vice President for Enrollment and Communications must be a creative, analytically-minded strategist who has comprehensive knowledge of the complexity and effective uses of financial aid; a skilled communicator who is adept at conveying the big picture of enrollment management while also keeping a handle on details; a cultivator of external visibility; and a strong manager of staff in the areas of admissions, financial aid, and communications. A trustworthy person of integrity, optimism, positive energy and good humor, the next Vice President must be willing and able to work collaboratively, share information widely, and foster strong campus-wide relationships.

    College and Academic Counselor – Fall 2012

    The faculty and staff of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® invites you to join us in shaping and implementing the next generation of innovative and engaging learning experiences.  IMSA is actively seeking applications for the full-time position of College and Academic Counselor as a member of the College and Academic Counseling (CAC) Team for fall of 2012.  This individual will collaborate in the development and delivery of college application materials, financial aid, college admission testing, as well as all course selection and scheduling processes, academic counseling and intervention programs.  The College and Academic Counselor is supervised and evaluated by the Coordinator of College and Academic Counseling.  Type 73 certification is not required.

     The internationally recognized Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy^® (IMSA) develops creative, ethical leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  As a teaching and learning laboratory created by the State of Illinois, IMSA enrolls academically talented Illinois students (grades 10-12) in its advanced, residential, college preparatory program.      Major Duties and Responsibilities:

    The College and Academic Counselor will be responsible for, but not limited to:

    Serve as primary college planning counselor to assigned students

    Meet with students and parents to discuss college selection and college application process

    Develop and prepare appropriate college guidance materials

    Assist with planning and implementation of college-related events and meetings for students and parents

    Assist with the planning and hosting of college mini fairs and college information day

    Assist with the planning and implementation of standardized testing

    Serve as a liaison between students, parents, and colleges during the college application process

    Write comprehensive letters of recommendation for college admissions for all assigned students

    Visit colleges and universities and attend professional conferences

    Complete scheduling of rising juniors and seniors

    Serve as primary academic counselor (Case Manager) to assigned students

    Serve as a Case Manager to students on academic probation or with other academic concerns

    Develop academic plans for students with academic difficulties

    Monitor and follow up with students’ attendance at required Evening Study

    Conduct student academic conferences when needed

    Monitor student progress toward graduation

    Communicate with students’ parents regarding academic and social/emotional performance

    Serve as a member of the academic, personal, and social intervention support team (Strategies Team)

    Provide effective administrative support by monitoring, maintaining, and performing special projects and carrying out on-going functions as assigned by and discussed with the Coordinator of College and Academic Counseling

    Required Skills and Experience:

    The required skills and experience for this position include, but are not limited to:

    Experience with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds is essential

    Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel services or related field required

    Minimum three years experience working in high school counseling or college admissions at either the secondary or college level

    Extensive insight, knowledge and thorough understanding of the college application processes and timelines associated with selective college admissions

    Sufficient insight, knowledge and understanding of financial aid process

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential

    Strong results-oriented organizational skills with attention to details

    Strong interpersonal skills in relating to multiple audiences including students, parents, and educators

    Proficiency with computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet and web-based tools required

    Available for travel

     Salary and Benefits:

    The position of College and Academic Counselor is a 10-months plus four week, full-time, employment-at-will position.  Salary and benefits are commensurate with training and experience expected at this level of employment.  As part of the State University Retirement System, the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy offers an excellent comprehensive benefits package including health and retirement benefits.  The State Universities Retirement System (SURS) is reciprocal with other Illinois public retirement systems such as the Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois (TRS) and the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

    The Counselor supports the mission of the institution, is conversant with all the University's rules, regulations and status of accreditation and approvals. 

    The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the recruitment and counseling of prospective students. The Counselor works with faculty, staff, alumni, health career advisors, and NUHS students in order to increase candidates for admission.

    Essential Duties

    • Provide informational materials and counseling services for prospective students.
    • Assist students through all aspects of the admissions process including the collection, evaluation and distribution of documents and information related to their admissions file.
    • Maintain telephone and electronic contact and initiate correspondence with prospective students, including appropriate and consistent follow-up.

    PURPOSE STATEMENT/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:  Ten month position in a split campus setting in which counselors are responsible for a high school level caseload of students.  As such, they provide holistic, comprehensive, and proactive services which contribute to each student’s academic, post-secondary, and personal/social development.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Demonstrate an understanding of the learning process and the academic environments while developing programs, courses of study, and interventions that promote the achievement of all students.
    • Appropriately address issues of diversity, cultural difference, and change.
    • Plan and design developmental counseling curriculum based on knowledge of the students, the community, and the overall educational program that develops academic, personal and social services.
    • Complete the assessments, referrals, and counseling of students and families.
    • Serve as a member of the Pupil Personnel Support Team and other school-based committees.
    • Operate as the case manager for students with a Section 504 Education Plan.
    • Participate in IEP meetings and provide information to support special education students.
    • Meet with students and parents (individually and in groups) to provide information, advice, and assistance about post-secondary options, including the college application process, individual college choices, career exploration, and financial aid.
    • Maintain and share information with other counselors related to colleges, vocational training, careers, summer opportunities, scholarships, and financial aid.
    • Work with the Registrar to enroll students, determine graduation eligibility, and maintain records, including GPA’s and transcripts.
    • Write letters of recommendation for seniors by gathering information from parents, teachers, school records, and students themselves.
    • Develop, present and attend informational day and evening presentations to parents and community members.
    • Keep abreast of issues and trends in college admission, higher education, and testing, specific colleges and maintain membership in professional organizations such as the National Association for college Admission Counseling and the Illinois School Counseling Association.
    • Maintain awareness of current legal issues and ethical guidelines of the profession and act accordingly.
    • Maintain and disseminate information about standardized tests, such SAT, ACT, AP, PSAT, PLAN, EXPLORE, etc.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Master’s Degree in School Counseling and School Service Personnel Type 73 Certificate with Guidance endorsement.
